Qualified Medication Aide - QMA

SIGN ON BONUS: $5,000

**Bonus will be paid out Monthly over the course of the first year of employment!**

Qualified Medication Aides administer oral, inhalation and topical medications to patients. They observe patients for drug reactions and report any problems to the nurses. Qualified medication aides monitor the patient’s vital signs, calculate medication dosages and stock the medication cart. Qualified medication aides also record what medications were given for the day and the dosage in the medication administration record (MAR) chart. Perform other duties as assigned by the licensed nurse within the QMA scope of practice.  

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) must be a certified nurse aide in good standing on the State Nurse Aide Registry and completed 1,000 work hours as a CNA before making application to the QMA training program 
  • Passed the QMA competency evaluation program consisting of a written test 
  • Be listed in good standing as a QMA on the Indiana State Nurse Aide Registry
  • Deliver physician ordered routine daily medications either prescription or non-prescription to patients.
  • Verifies identity of resident/patient receiving medications, records name of drug, dosage and time of administration in the medication administration record. 
  • Coordinate with different nurses to assist with patient care and medications.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions on how to manage medications.  
  • Observe patients, document changes in their condition and report to the assigned licensed nurse.
  • Gives direct resident/patient care such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assists in examinations and treatments.
  • Records and restocks medication inventories.
  • Ensure equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned.
  • Uphold all health and safety standards.
  • Respond to patient emergency call signals, bells, or intercom system to identify patient needs.
  • Abides by the facility’s established policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties within the standard of practice for the qualified medication aide certification.
  • Displays job competencies consistently
