Mobile Director of Nursing

Job Description:

• Provide complete supervision and management for the nursing department to facilities in need of a DON in the assigned/designated region 

• Assist facility and regional leadership in recruiting, interviewing and hiring new DON 

• Ensure effective orientation and on-the-job training for the newly hired DON 

• Safely transfer all clinical aspects/ responsibilities of the facility to the new trained DON. 

• Support Saber facilities in the assigned/designated region with clinical leadership needs as assigned. 


• Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia or North Carolina  

• Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years of recent Director of Nursing experience 

• History of excellent quality and survey outcomes 

• Ability to travel and work throughout the area of assignment 

• Understand federal, state and rules and regulations, and survey practices in your assigned area 

While Acting as DON for the facility:

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the nursing service department 

• Assist in the recruitment and interviewing of nursing personnel 

• Conduct interviews, hire nursing service employees, conduct counseling interviews and initiate disciplinary action as necessary 

• Ensure licensed nurses and nurse aides have current certification and/or license 

• Ensure facility has Saber’s Policies, Procedures, and System in place 

• Monitor nursing care to ensure all residents are treated fairly and with kindness, dignity, and respect 

• Maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures 

• Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other disciplines to ensure continuity of holistic care of the residents  

• Assess resident care needs and assist in the development of individualized plans of resident care. 

• Assess resident responses to medication and treatments and make appropriate recommendations for nursing action to be implemented. 

• Uses TSI, PCC, CMS reports, current survey status and clinical outcomes to monitor the clinical progress 

• Assume responsibility for nursing service compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 

• Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action 

• Round frequently and spot checks documentation accuracy and completeness on new admissions, patients with a change in condition, patients triggering occurrence investigation, and patients to be discharged 

• Participate in the planning and implementation of the nursing service budget/ operate nursing service within the established budget guidelines  

• Communicate daily with nursing personnel providing clear, concise information as well as specific assignments 

• Direct and supervise scheduling of employees within established guidelines for allocation of nursing service personnel on duty 

• Prepare written employee performance evaluations and initiate recommendations for salary increases, promotions, and terminations 

• Assist with discharge planning to assure the discharge of a resident is a proper discharge and the resident and family are provided for upon discharge 

• Coordinate resident admissions, transfers, and discharge with community agencies and other facilities 

• Assist with maintaining a strong, manageable and useful Quality Assurance Committee that meets monthly 

• Perform other related duties as directed by the supervisor, facility administrator or regional team. 

Special Functions and Responsibilities of Mobile DON:

• Participate in MOCK surveys or regulatory survey visits as assigned 

• Assist in the recruitment, interviewing and training of the new DON 

• Work collaboratively with the RDCS during all interim assignments 

• Ensure a successful leadership transition to new DON
